Phoenix of Notre Dame
This digital painting was created by Francine Fox in 2019. The day after the fire at the Notre-Dame Cathedral of Paris, the rooster-shaped weathervane that had topped the collapsed spire was found; it was dented but salvageable. Seemingly symbolic of the immediately voiced intentions to rebuild the cathedral, I see the iconic rooster weathervane as a phoenix now. In my imagery, I have set the bird atop a tall pine tree to signify regrowth, but also to hint at parallel stories of loss and regeneration in general.
